ZTE (Malaysia) Corporation and Multimedia University (MMU)  today marked a revolutionary collaboration when both institutions announced a cooperation to establish their co-founded institute, MMU-ZTE Training Centre, at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), MMU Melaka Campus.

Through this co-operation, ZTE and MMU will establish the new training centre with the state-of-the-art equipment and network environment to extend the technological innovation and vocational training for students of the university. This will push forward the talent cultivation in Malaysia, hence, will be creating agility development in innovating the society needs. At the same time, ZTE offers internship opportunities to local students for practical capabilities as well as to gain access to world leading information and communications technologies (ICT) on campus.

According to Prof. Datuk Dr. Ahmad Rafi Mohamed Eshaq, the President of MMU, “As an Industry Trendsetter, MMU is enthusiastic with the collaboration which is very timely for the university to close ranked with another industrial global player, ZTE, whom we respect immensely with its global leadership in the provision of leading supplier of comprehensive telecommunications solutions.”

He added, “With this new facility and opportunity, MMU affirms its presence as Malaysia’s Top Private University in providing high-quality and world-class education particularly in the field of engineering and technology. This collaboration cemented MMU’s reputation in the field of Engineering globally following the recent announcement of MMU being listed in the top 200 of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject 2017 for the third consecutive year in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (E&E).”

“Through ZTE University, in particular, we are thrilled to be able to have access to the rich suite of courses and software to provide our staff and students the skills to keep up with the pace of the telecommunications industry,” Prof. Datuk Dr. Ahmad Rafi said at the MoU signing ceremony today.

According to Mr. Steven Ge, the Managing Director of ZTE (Corporation) Malaysia, ZTE will strengthen the cooperation with prominent universities in associated countries as the Chinese government gradually promotes the ‘One Belt One Road’ proposal.

“ZTE will depend on the platform produced by the MMU-ZTE Training Centre to achieve intensive partnerships with international universities and enterprises in terms of joint school running, technological innovation, and local vocational training, making contributions to the talent cultivation conducive to local societies,” Mr. Steven Ge added.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Dato’ Sri Dr. Halim Shafie, Chairman of Malaysian Communications And Multimedia Commission (MCMC); Mr. Zeng Li, Vice President HR of ZTE Corporation; Prof. Dr. Hishamuddin Ismail, Vice President (Academic), MMU; as well as Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alan Tan Wee Chiat, the Dean of FET, MMU.

Through this agreement, ZTE has committed to provide its resident trainers to enhance the exposure of MMU students and staff alike. The exposure to the industry is of great importance, as it will seed ideas and prepare the future generation to understand and meet the needs of the industry.
